Native American Scholarships

The Michigan Indian Tuition Waiver Program:   The MITW is a state, not a tribal program.  It provides tuition at any Michigan public community college or university.  Applicants must be a member of a federally recognized Indian Tribe, at least 1/4  blood quantum, a resident of Michigan for 12 months, and a full-time, part time,or summer school student. Applications are available with the Native American Advisor, Mrs. Blair or MITW Application
 
Sault Tribe Higher Education Programs: Sault Tribe offers several programs; Scholarships, Higher Education Grants and the Self-sufficiency Incentive Awards.  Program specific information can be found at: Sault Tribe Higher Education Programs under Member Services. 
 
American Indian College Fund: Up to $1 million
The American Indian College Fund was established in 1989 to provide scholarships to American Indian/Alaska Native students attending tribal colleges, and to fund and create awareness about the community-based accredited tribal colleges and universities that offer students access to knowledge and skills alongside Native culture, language, and values.

The American Indian College Fund also provides scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students attending any other accredited public and non-profit private college all across the United States. 

 American Indian Science & Engineering Society:  Up to $500,000

 Association of American Indian Affairs

Students must be enrolled in a tribe from the Continental US or Alaska. Canadian students are not eligible. There is no minimum blood quantum requirement. Students must be enrolled full time at an accredited institution of higher learning.

The IHS Scholarship Program provides qualified American Indian and Alaska Native health professional students an opportunity to establish an educational foundation for each state in their pre-professional careers.

This scholarship is awarded to help Native American students of any age, any tribe and in any state striving to get an education at the undergraduate or graduate levels.  However, undergraduate students are given preference. All awards are judged based on financial need and academic achievement.  Applicants must be Native Americans (proof of American Indian blood is required by letter or proof papers) in financial need and have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher. This is a one-time $4,000 award.

Truman D. Picard Scolarship
 
Intertribal Timber Council sponsors and administers this scholarship which offers multiple $2,500 awards to graduating high school seniors, current college students and those about to enter graduate school. Besides proving membership in a federally recognized American Indian Tribe or Alaska Native, the student must also be pursuing an education in the Natural Resources area of study. 
 
 
 
Wells Fargo American Indian Scholarship
 
Administered by the American Indian Graduate and funded by Wells Fargo, this scholarship is for federally recognized American Indian Tribe or Alaskan Native students who will study in banking or a related field, demonstrate financial need and a 3.00 GPA on a 4.00 scale.
