Dear Parents and Community Members:
We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2014-2015 educational progress for the Soo Township School. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, accountability and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Mrs. Diane M. Chevillot, Principal, for assistance.
The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following web site:
or you may review a copy in our main office at your child’s school.
The state has identified some schools with the status of Reward, Focus or Priority. A Reward school is one that is outperforming other schools in achievement, growth, or is performing better than other schools with a similar student population. A Focus school is one that has a large achievement gap in 30% of its student achievement scores. A Priority school is one whose achievement and growth is in the lowest 5% of all schools in the state.
Our school has not been given one of these labels.
Soo Township School has implemented many educational strategies aimed at closing the achievement gap between our highest and lowest achieving students. Some of these strategies are: Reading Recovery, intervention specialist, upper and lower elementary paraprofessionals, and NWEA Map testing. It is our goal to close the achievement gap between our highest and lowest performing students while continuing to raise the performance level of all of our students.
Soo Township School has been serving the Sault Ste. Marie community since 1958. The school's attendance area has been established by the administration of the Sault Area Public Schools. The school district has adopted the national core curriculum. The curriculum may be viewed electronically by visiting the following website: http://www.eupisd.com.
Paper copies can be obtained by contacting the Soo Township School office. Washington School maintains an active school improvement plan. Parent involvement on our school improvement team is welcomed and encouraged. Interested parents should contact Mrs. Diane M. Chevillot, Principal, in the school office. Soo Township School enjoys a high parent participation rate in various school events including parent-teacher conferences:
Fall: 96% Spring: 93%
We look forward to working with our students and their families this school year. The success of our students is dependent upon the cooperation and commitment of our staff, families and community. If you would like to play a larger role in this partnership, please contact me directly: 906-635-6631 or firstname.lastname@example.org I would be glad to answer any questions that you may have or to hear your suggestions.
Diane M.. Chevillot,
