Degrees and Certifications:

2002 - Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Bradley University In progress - Master of Arts in Educational Instruction at Northern Michigan University

Mrs. Jennifer Anderson

Hello! My name is Jennifer Anderson and I will be the 7th and 8th grade STEAM teacher this year.

I grew up in Pekin, Illinois, and graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and worked for four years at Caterpillar with the C15/C16 Heavy Duty Diesel Engine Design Team. After marrying my husband and starting a family, my life went in a different direction. We lived in Yakima, Washington; Sierra Vista, Arizona; and now, Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan. We have two daughters and two rescue dogs. I volunteer for a lot of activities that my children do, including the Sault Competitive Aquatics Team board of directors and the Soo Theatre front of house operation.

I started working in education while living in Arizona. I was a Child Passenger Safety Technician and Instructor for 10 years, teaching parents and caregivers how to safely install car seats in vehicles and leading classroom instruction to train new technicians. I served as a scout leader for American Heritage Girls for five years, instructing badge work for scouts in the first through third grades. I also worked as a classroom volunteer, substitute teacher, paraprofessional, and records secretary at the elementary school level for five years. After moving to Sault Sainte Marie, I first volunteered for Sault Area Middle School and Lincoln Elementary. Now, I have worked at Sault Area Middle School for the past two years as a paraprofessional. Here, I have been providing classroom support in different subjects, as well as substitute teaching when needed. This included a long-term substitute position last year for Math 6, Life Skills 7, and STEM 5.

This will be my first year teaching STEAM. Math and science are my favorite subjects; however, I enjoy the arts as well; I crochet, play piano, and learn the violin. Along with my degree in engineering that heavily relies on the use of technology, I am excited to bring all of that together to teach STEAM. While teaching, I will be learning too, as I am working on my Master of Arts in Educational Instruction through Northern Michigan University.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me by phone at 906-635-3839, ext. 5758 or by e-mail janderson-sas@eupschools.org. I will get back to you within 24 hours during the school week. I look forward to an exciting year with your students!
